Press Release Summary: Cost-effective, easy-to-use tester with spectrum analysis
accessory

Press Release Body: Ebermannstadt, Germany - May 14, 2008. Vierling's VIT-V2 VDSL2
tester will be available from specialized dealers along with an optional spectrum
analysis kit beginning June 1, 2008. Service technicians can use this handheld
tester to quickly and reliably troubleshoot problems on VDSL2 lines. A laptop can be
connected to read out all of the relevant connection parameters. The VIT-V2 spectrum
analysis kit (VIT-V2 SpAn) is available as an accessory. It consists of the PMP
VIT-V2 protected measurement point adapter, spectrum analysis software and an
additional connecting cable. This accessory package allows field technicians to
perform detailed spectrum analysis on DSL connections for more extensive analysis of
problems.

Cost-effective and easy-to-use
"We designed the VIT-V2 as a cost-effective and easy-to-use tester with battery life
of better than four hours. We also made it a priority for the tester to provide fast
Pass/Fail results", said Georg Herrmann, Director Measurement Solutions at Vierling.
"The VIT-V2 is targeted at customers who need a rugged, user-friendly and powerful
tester that fits into their budget." No expensive display is required due to the use
of LEDs. If the LED display is not adequate in a certain situation, the technician
can connect a laptop to read out details about the data rates, error counters, line
attenuation, S/N ratio (noise margin), synchronization attempts and bit allocation.
"With the VIT-V2, technicians have access to the same features provided by much more
expensive test solutions", said Herrmann.

Spectrum analysis kit (accessory)
The VIT-V2 spectrum analysis kit is available for a few hundred more Euros. It
allows display of detailed spectral graphs on a laptop for analysis of the power
distribution over the entire frequency range. Technicians can detect interfering
signals at a glance, e.g. the common crosstalk from 2 Mbit/s lines or stray
interference due to a faulty home installation. Problems of this sort are a frequent
source of failures on VDSL2 lines. "The spectrum analysis kit turns our
cost-effective and easy-to-use VDSL2 tester into a powerful test solution that holds
its own when compared to more expensive VDSL test solutions that are available",
said Herrmann.

VIT testers are standard testers in Germany
Vierling developed the VIT-V2 especially for the German VDSL network. More than
10,000 units of the VIT-A1 and VIT-A2 testers for ADSL and ADSL2+ have been sold in
Germany since 2005. Vierling now hopes to achieve the same success with the VIT-V2,
making it the standard tester for VDSL2 in Germany. "Like with the other testers, we
find it critical to be the first provider to deliver a dependable solution which
German and European VDSL carriers can choose to adopt very quickly", says Herrmann.
"We have already attained this objective to a large extend, and now we are working
to establish the VIT-V2 as a product available from specialized dealers."

The supplied VIT-V2 Watch software reveals a drop-off in the bit allocation (1) on a
VDSL2 line at around 1.0 MHz. This reduces the signal noise ratio (2) accordingly.
Spectrum analysis using the VIT-V2 spectrum analysis kit (accessory) reveals the
source of the problem: interference from an adjacent line (3).
